OLDS- During the evening of December 3, members of the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit located a man driving a vehicle with a stolen licence plate.

Team members arrested 45-year-old Charles Benson Schmidt of Olds.

He was arrested for possession of stolen property and several outstanding warrants.

While in custody, Schmidt was recognized as the person previously arrested for providing false identification on September 14 after being stopped for a traffic violation.

A taser style weapon and what was believed to be methamphetamine was also found.

Under the name given to police at the time, he was charged and released to appear in court in October, but did not show.

Schmidt has now been charged with those offences, as well as an additional charge of obstructing a peace officer, and appears in Didsbury Provincial Court on December 23.

In an unrelated incident, during the early morning hours of December 5, Olds RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a suspicious Dodge Ram truck.

The truck fled from police but was located a short time later and the driver arrested.

It was learned that the truck had been stolen from the Sundre area.

A 37-year-old man from Olds is facing charges including possession of stolen property.

He is set to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on January 6.
