Resolution possible for Red Deer County woman charged with killing husband

A resolution may be in the works for a Red Deer County woman accused of killing her husband.

Robin Berresford, 37, stands charged with manslaughter with a firearm in the death of Matthew Berresford, who was 36, on Feb. 27 of this year.

Blackfalds and Red Deer RCMP responded that day to a disturbance at a home in Balmoral Heightsand arrived to find a dead man inside.

Robin Berresford was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing was held in late October. However, court heard Monday morning that “some things have transpired” since that time and that have led to the possibility of a resolution.

The case will be spoken to in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on January 6, 2020.

For the time being, a two-week judge and jury trial for Berresford has been scheduled for May 10-21, 2021. However, those trial dates will be vacated if a resolution is reached.

The latest a trial for Berresford can take place, as per the R. vs. Jordan ruling, is July 28, 2021.
