Sylvan Lake man accused of killing wife makes court appearance

A Sylvan Lake man accused of killing his wife this past summer made a brief appearance in Red Deer court on Friday.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, 41, faces counts of second-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault in the Sept. 11 incident in which Mounties responded to a residential neighbourhood in Sylvan Lake and discovered a 36-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries.

The victim, later identified as Kulvinder Sandhu, was taken to hospital but died of her injuries three days later.

Robin Snider, acting on behalf of Sandhu’s lawyer Danielle Boisvert, advised court on Friday the matter would need to be adjourned to allow the Crown more time to provide defense with disclosure.

The case is scheduled to return to Red Deer court on Jan. 22, 2020, where it’s hoped a date for a preliminary inquiry will be set. A preliminary inquiry would determine if the case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Sandhu remains in custody and will appear by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) that day, along with a Punjabi interpreter.
