Finance Ministers meet in Edmonton
EDMONTON- Alberta Finance Minister Travis Toews says he discussed the urgent need for action to support the province’s economy when he met with his federal counterpart yesterday in Edmonton.
Toews says he and federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau discussed the frustration Albertans are feeling over federal policies he says are failing the province.
He says he asked Morneau to take specific action including providing Alberta with an equalization rebate and removing natural resources from the calculation of equalization entitlements.
Toews says if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is serious about showing Albertans he is listening to their concerns, Ottawa also needs to end to the mortgage stress test that was needlessly imposed on Alberta because of housing market challenges in other parts of the country.
