Weekend recap: Nov. 22-23

RED DEER- This past week the RDC Kings Hockey and Basketball teams defeated the Briercrest College Clippers.

The Basketball Queens dropped their contests to the nationally ranked Clippers.

The Queens Volleyball team downed the Kodiaks and the Kings split their series in Lethbridge.

Here is a summary of what happened this past week:

Kings Hockey | Friday, Nov. 22 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Hockey Kings earned a 7-1 victory over the Briercrest College Clippers. Fifth-year centre Dylan Thudium scored twice. Tyrell Mappin, Jacob Wozney, Kyle Salaway, Lynnden Pastachak and Regan Doig added singles. Kings goaltender Arik Weersink made 17 saves for the win.

Kings Hockey | Saturday, Nov. 23 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

In an afternoon game, the second place RDC Kings (10-1-1-0) dominated the Clippers (3-7-1-1) by a score of 8-2. Carter Wolski and Austin Hunter found the back of the net twice. Tyrell Mappin, Ross Heidt, Lynnden Pastachak and Jacob Wozney also tallied. Nathan Alalouf turned aside 21 shots, recording the win.

Queens Basketball | Friday, Nov. 22 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer College Queens pushed the nationally ranked Briercrest College Clippers to the end, but came up just four points shy (72-76). Harneet Sidhu led the Queens with 21 points. Lauren Cardinal contributed 17 points and nine rebounds.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 23 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Clippers (5-2) captured a 93-75 decision over the fourth place Queens (4-4). Harneet Sidhu knocked down 17 points. Valentina Rincon, Amy Szymanek and Lauren Cardinal had 12 points each.

Kings Basketball | Friday, Nov. 22 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer College Kings downed the Briercrest College Clippers 87-85. Tyronn King and Red Deer’s Cody White accumulated 21 points each. Jouvon Edison picked up 12 rebounds.

Kings Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 23 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The third place RDC Kings (5-3) wrapped up an 89-83 victory over the Clippers (2-5). Red Deer’s Spencer Klassen led both squads with 27 points.

Queens Volleyball | Friday, Nov. 22 | Lethbridge College

The Queens earned a four set win over the Kodiaks (21-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-13). Erin Neufeldt had 13 kills, 10 digs, two aces and one assist.

Queens Volleyball | Saturday, Nov. 23 | Lethbridge College

The second place Red Deer College Queens (8-2) defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (2-8) in four sets (21-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-12). McKenna Olson totaled eight kills, eight stuff blocks, two digs and one ace.

Kings Volleyball | Friday, Nov. 22 | Lethbridge College

The RDC Kings dropped the match in three sets to the Kodiaks (21-25, 25-27 and 18-25). Setter Thomas Wass finished with 32 assists, 10 digs, two kills and one stuff block.

Kings Volleyball | Saturday, Nov. 23 | Lethbridge College

The third place Kings (7-3) picked up a four set victory over the second seed Kodiaks (8-2) in an afternoon rematch (25-17, 19-25, 25-19 and 25-15). Carter Hills was one of the Kings’ offensive weapons, totaling 14 kills, eight digs, three aces and two stuff blocks.
