Alberta man charged in death of infant son, assault on another child

FORT SASKATCHEWAN, Alta. – Police say a 30-year old man has been charged with murder after the death of his baby boy in Fort Saskatchewan.

Insp. Mike McCauley, detachment commander of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP, says officers responded to a 911 call on Saturday night.

The one-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Damien Christopher Starrett, who’s known to police, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police say Starrett was also charged with assaulting another child.

He has been remanded into custody and will be in Fort Saskatchewan provincial court Thursday.
