Step Up Fund

The Sutter Fund donates $25,000 to kids in need

The Sutter Fund has given kids a life chance in Red Deer following a donation of $25,000, which will be directed to the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools’ Step Up Fund.

It’s tough to learn when all you can think about is food or other basic needs.

The donation will go towards our Step Up Fund, which ensures students have the basic needs so they can succeed. The program provides funds to cover basic necessities that many students across the District go without. Those needs are real and have a significant impact on students and their learning – items like food, clothing, medical needs and transportation. By taking care of these needs, students can focus on learning and achieving.

The generous donation from The Sutter Fund will have an immediate and positive impact on the educational experiences of students in our District. The money will be directed to breakfast, snack and lunch programs that exist in every Red Deer Public school.

At the donation presentation, the Sutter family was surprised to hear the extent of needs that are real for some students across our District.

“On behalf of our family, and The Sutter Fund Committee, it totally breaks our hearts to think of kids going to school hungry, without a lunch to look forward to. When we were made aware of the number of kids in our community that live this reality, it took us about one second to decide that this is where substantial funds needed to go,” said Connie Sutter, Co-Founder of the Sutter Fund.

“The community of Red Deer, and many people and sponsors in and around Central Alberta have paid to play in our golf tournament year after year, for the last 25 years. That is where our funds come from, and it is only fitting that we give those funds back to our community – people taking care of people!”

“The Sutter family have been tremendous supporters of community initiatives over the years. We are extremely grateful for their donation of $25,000. It’s about giving kids a life chance and that is what the donation from The Sutter Fund will do,” said Andy Metzger, Chair of the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools.
