The Red Deer Curling Classic returns to the Pidherney Centre this weekend.

An annual part of the World Curling Tour season, the event features 28 men’s teams competing in a triple knockout tournament for a $35,000 purse.

Saskatchewan skip Kody Hartung and his team of Tyler Hartung, Jayden Shwaga and Mark Larsen are back to defend the title they won in Red Deer in 2018 against teams from Canada, Switzerland, Scotland, China and the United States.

The women’s side will also see 28 teams competing this weekend for a $35,000 purse.

Defending champion Robyn Silvernagle and her Saskatchewan team of Stefanie Lawton, Jessie Hunkin and Kara Thevenot are back this year.

Skip Marla Sherrer of Lacombe is competing this weekend backed by Janais DeJong, Julie Selvais and Adrienne Winfield. Chelsea Carey, Michelle Englot and Kelsey Rocque are also among the notable skips bringing teams to Red Deer.

Action gets underway Friday morning and runs through the weekend at the Pidherney Centre. The championship draw is set for Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
