EDMONTON- Alberta lawmakers will consider the merits of a proposal that aims to increase the donation of organs and tissue when people die.
A private member’s bill calls for having a policy that would assume that people agree to be organ donors unless they specifically make it clear that they oppose the idea.
Under the government’s current policy people must opt-in to being a organ donor and make their wishes clear to their family.
United Conservative Matt Jones says 90% of Canadians support organ and tissue donation, but less than 20% have made plans to donate.
