Patrons take down man with gun who tried robbing Blackfalds Motor Inn

A 27-year-old man from Red Deer remains in custody after he tried to rob the Blackfalds Motor Inn at gunpoint on Halloween night.

It was at 12:42 a.m. on Nov. 1 when RCMP responded to a 911 call that a man was being held by bar patrons after he fired a shot during a robbery attempt. Responding officers took the man into custody.

Mounties say a single gunshot shot appears to have been fired during the robbery attempt, but not at a person, while another shot was discharged during a struggle for the gun.

No one in the bar was injured from either of the gunshots.

Ryan Allan Bell from Red Deer is charged with 14 counts, most of them firearms-related, including discharge firearm while being reckless, careless use of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence. He is due back in Red Deer provincial court this Friday, Nov. 7.
