100 Kids Who Care comes through for local women in need
Another year of philanthropy is in the books for Red Deer’s 100 Kids Who Care.
The group met Sunday at Parkland Mall to shop, decorate and fill shoeboxes for local women in need. The boxes were filled with items such as tea, socks, lip balm, and gift cards, among other things.
Christine Slaymaker, who oversees 100 Kids, says typically participants get to vote on where their $10 goes, but they partnered beforehand this time to support women in need.
“We try to keep it fresh because we are dealing with young people,” she says. “What we want to do is just open their eyes to different ways they can use their voice and use their abilities to make an impact. The more exposure we can give them to how they can get involved is the best part of it for us.”
