bumped the slump

Rebels finally back in the win column after defeating Regina

Nov 3, 2019 | 8:15 PM

The Red Deer Rebels have bumped their seven-game slump with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Regina Pats.

The win comes in game two of a six game stretch away from the Westerner Park Centrium, and in the first of five games in seven days.

Red Deer’s Chase Leslie got the road team on the board first with his 2nd of the season five minutes into the middle frame.

Zack Smith tied it up nine minutes later with his first career WHL goal.

Things got crazy in the third, but not until very late. There was 1:23 remaining when Josh Tarzwell seemingly scored the game winner.

But with 41 seconds on the clock, former Rebel Austin Pratt tied things with his 8th of the year sending the game to OT.

In the extra period, it only took 48 seconds for the Rebels to find the actual winner. Arshdeep Bains came through with his 2nd goal of the season, with Dallas Stars prospect Dawson Barteaux getting the assist.

Both teams failed to score on the man advantage, and tied 27-27 in the shots department.

Byron Fancy got his first win of the season in net for the Rebels.

Over their seven game losing streak, Red Deer picked up two loser points in shootout defeats, and were outscored 39-16.

Next up for Red Deer is a date with the Brandon Wheat Kings this Tuesday at 6 p.m. The broadcast can be heard LIVE on 106.7 The Drive.
