Ponoka finishes up busy construction season

Nov 3, 2019 | 11:13 AM

A busy construction season has wrapped up in Ponoka.

Warmer weather has allowed crews to work an extra couple weeks into the fall. Work will continue on roadway rehabilitation, repairs and extensive drainage improvements to 64 Street between 42 Avenue and 44 Avenue. That stretch will also be resurfaced next spring.

Workers also recently finished a new parking lot and landscaping project on the east side of 50 Street across from the Ponoka Civic Building. The project was motivated by increased traffic to the building because of programming offered by Campus Alberta Central.

The Town says more than 13,500 square metres of paving repairs were completed this summer, with $547,000 approved in the 2019 budget to do so.

The largest project undertaken this summer was infrastructure renewal on 52 Avenue between 50 Street and 51 Street.

Underground infrastructure was completely replaced with new sanitary and water mains, service connections, and realignment. Further paving will take place on that stretch early in 2020.

Additionally, improvements were made this summer to the Ponoka Splash Park, including mechanical upgrades.

Ponoka town council will deliberate the 2020 budget on November 20 and 21 beginning at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the Ponoka Civic Building. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
