Man sentenced to 11 years in fatal stabbing over cigarettes
EDMONTON- A man who admitted to fatally stabbing one of two identical brothers at an Edmonton bus stop when told they had no cigarettes to offer him has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Jonathan Soosay, 22, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty last July to manslaughter in the death of Nathan Helfrich.
An agreed statement of facts read in court stated Soosay approached the 28-year-old victim and his twin sibling, Matthew, on January 24, 2018 and asked for a smoke.
When both said they only had e-cigarettes, Soosay stabbed Nathan twice in the chest.
