A competitive volleyball athlete from Red Deer has been named the Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) Athlete of the Month for October.

Colby Nemeth is a 17-year-old Grade 12 student at Lindsay Thurber High School (LTCHS) and was a member of the 2018 LTCHS Senior Boys Volleyball Team that finished 8th in the 2018 ASAA 4A Provincial Championships. The Raiders are currently ranked #2 in ASAA 4A Boys Volleyball in 2019.

This season, Nemeth captured an All-Star Award at the U of A Bears High School Invitational, and MVP honors at Harry Ainlay’s TVT Volleyball Tournament in Edmonton.

ASDC-C officials say the Raiders are looking forward to securing a spot in this year’s ASAA 4A Provincial Championships at Jasper Place High School in Edmonton, the week of November 21 – 23.

This past summer, Nemeth was a member of both the Volleyball Alberta 17U Provincial Team for both indoor and beach volleyball. With Team Alberta’s indoor team, Nemeth and his teammates travelled to Korea to compete in early July and returned to compete at the Canada Cup Championships in Halifax, NS where the team captured the Bronze Medal.

Nemeth is said to have quickly converted to the beach after the indoor season and went to Swift Current, SK where he and his partner took home the Bronze Medal in Beach Volleyball at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games.

Looking ahead, Nemeth will play with the Central Alberta Kings Volleyball Club’s 18U team in the coming 2020 season and is hoping to receive a an invitation to try-out for Canada’s Junior National Volleyball team and play with the team in the summer of 2020, or continue to pursue a Volleyball Canada Championship in Beach Volleyball with Team Alberta.

Nemeth is described as having his eyes set on playing volleyball at a post-secondary level and eventually at the national team level in indoor or beach volleyball.

With his strong work ethic, undeniable athletic abilities and his training experiences with ASDC-Central, Nemeth is anticipated to grow, develop and succeed in his volleyball career!
