Alberta is Canada’s retail cannabis leader: Report

EDMONTON- ATB Financial says the province is a leader when it comes to the development of the legal retail cannabis market.

Alberta’s Crown-owned bank says the government has issued more than 280 licenses for retail cannabis stores.

It states while a black market still exists, $170-million in retail pot sales was recorded in Alberta between October 2018 and August 2019.

Calgary and Edmonton accounted for 61.9% of provincial sales in August.

With a total of 500 retail licenses expected to be in place in Alberta by 2021, legal sales are forecast to increase.
