More used oil round-ups coming in 2020

Oct 24, 2019 | 2:21 PM

Red Deerians will have more opportunities to recycle their used oil in 2020.

A recent meeting between The City of Red Deer and the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) has yielded an agreement that will see four used oil and paint product round-ups next year.

The ARMA hosted one this summer and the second is this Saturday from 10-2 at 4229 Hewlett Drive.

The City’s Environmental Services manager, Tim Ainscough, says they will continue to work closely with ARMA.

“We are going to look at opportunities to expand oil and paint recycling in the city,” he says. “We currently have residential paint recycling at the landfill site. At present, we don’t have resources and budget to take on a full-time facility for oil and paint, but we will look for more opportunities.”

According to the ARMA, more than 1.7 billion litres of used oil have been recycled by Albertans since 1997. Just under 85 million litres were recycled in 2018.
