Man sentenced for beating Red Deer Mountie unconscious
A Red Deer man who left an RCMP officer bleeding and unconscious in downtown Red Deer earlier this year will spend the next 13 months behind bars.
It was just before 3:30 a.m. on June 4 when the male officer responded to a complaint of a trespasser at a business located on 50 (Gaetz) Avenue. The officer located a man believed to be the suspect and engaged him in conversation.
At one point during the interaction, the man assaulted the officer to the point where he was knocked unconscious, bleeding from the head area and left on the ground. The suspect then fled the area.
A civilian security staff worker observed the incident and provided first aid assistance to the officer until he was taken to hospital.
