Women wanted by Edmonton police after officers find 52 neglected cats

EDMONTON- Police are searching for two women after finding 52 cats living in deplorable conditions.

They say officers searched a property on Saturday in the northwest part of Edmonton.

They found dozens of cats surrounded by urine, feces and syringes in both a house and a motorhome.

Extreme levels of ammonia from cat feces and decaying animal flesh forced officers to call in a hazmat team from the fire department for help.

Police say 37 of the 52 cats that were found alive had to be put down.

Kelly Jenner and Alish Leclercq are wanted on criminal charges of wilfully causing pain, suffering or injury to an animal, and animal abandonment or neglect — and also face charges under the Animal Protection Act.

The residence has been condemned and boarded up by city officials.
