Ice Cream Sandwich Pop-up Sale supports local kids

LACOMBE- Father Lacombe Catholic School and their Leadership Students hosted the latest stop on Cilantro & Chives Ice Cream Sandwich Pop-up Sale.

More than 150 ice cream sandwiches were sold to help support students and families in need in the school community.

The program kicked off in September with $1 from every one of the treats sold in the restaurant donated to a local school.

However the restaurant has decided to kick back the entire $4 purchase price for the kid’s pop-up sale back to the school.

The final numbers are not in but the amount should be around $600.

School Principal Maria Wagner says the money will be used for their Student Support Fund.

The school dips into that fund for various needs; providing snacks in the classroom for kids who haven’t had breakfast before arriving to school, for students who want to play sports or be involved in other extracurricular activities that may not be able to because of financial reasons.

It has also been utilized to provide gift cards to school families in need.

“We cannot say enough about the Leadership Students at the school who chipped in to help with this pop-up sale. These grades 4-6 students organize events at the school, everything from fundraisers to social justice projects. They are gearing up for a “Scare Away Hunger” campaign on Halloween to collect items for the food bank while they are trick-or-treating, and they also have a “Coats for Christ” program in the works where they will be collecting coats for the homeless and needy. We have some amazing kids in our community.”
