Drug charges pending after driver nabbed for hit and run in Sylvan Lake

Some alert citizens helped Sylvan Lake RCMP arrest a man wanted following a hit and run incident this morning.

Mounties responded to a 911 complaint of a hit and run with a parked vehicle in the Fox Run area early Thursday. A witness who reported seeing a white SUV leaving the collision area attempted to follow the suspect vehicle.

About 10 minutes later, another witness reported seeing a white SUV with front end damage parked in the Hinshaw Drive area, and a male asking for assistance. A short time later, a third witness reported seeing a male running from an abandoned damaged SUV in the area.

After setting up containment, RCMP located and arrested the suspect male. The 37-year-old from the Blackfalds area, whose name has not been released, is facing charges including possession for the purposes of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purposes of trafficking GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate), possession for the purposes of trafficking Oxycodone, and proceeds of Crime under $5000.
