EDMONTON – A peace officer has been convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman he pulled over in an off-duty traffic stop.

Paul Derksen, who was working as a photo radar supervisor in Edmonton, had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Derksen was charged in 2017 after a 27-year-old woman told police that he convinced her to get into his car and sexually assaulted her.

The woman testified she had four beers that night and Derksen told her he saw her swerving and that she could get an impaired driving charge, so he offered to drive her home and then told her to perform oral sex.
