Rocky Health Foundation looking to raise over $250,000

The Rocky Mountain House and Area Health Foundation is looking for financial support from the community to continue to enhance patient care and to allow as many medical procedures as possible to be completed locally.

Board member and Treasurer Dale Shippelt says having proper equipment and support entices more doctors to stay in the community.

“Whether it be $10 or $50,000, every dollar helps the foundation,” says Shippelt.

He recalled how one individual had only change to donate but it was still welcomed with open arms. Another community family, who wished to remain anonymous, recently donated an generous $25,000.

The Health Foundation made purchases of over $300,000 in equipment and various needs for Rocky’s local hospital.

“These purchases have touched the needs of every age group patient within the hospital,” Shippelt added.

Realizing how difficult it can be for some to travel outside the town for medical procedures, especially for those living on nearby reserves already having to travel to get to Rocky, the foundation says they want to keep as many people as they can local.

“Everything from the Smile Maker’s toy program for children coming into the hospital in fear and receiving a toy, the colonoscopy program and electric beds, and more, all to benefit our community’s health needs at our hospital,” Shippelt explained “Now, the foundation, along with our doctors, our administrator and health care providers have identified a needs list. This is an aggressive target of raising in excess of $250,000. This includes instruments of completing laparoscopic surgery and hysterectomies.”

Donations for the Rocky Health Foundation can be dropped off at the hospital.
