ASIRT investigating shooting of woman during confrontation with RCMP

A woman is dead after being shot by an RCMP member in Strathcona County.

It was 7:30 a.m. Monday morning when police received a call for service from a female who requested members attend her home for assistance.

Upon arrival, a confrontation occurred between officers and the woman, according to RCMP.

The confrontation resulted in one of the members firing their gun. The female sustained a serious injury and was rushed to hospital for treatment, but she later succumbed to her injuries. No officers were injured.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate.
