Fundraising underway for family of QEII crash victim

Sep 20, 2019 | 11:24 AM

A fundraising campaign has been launched for the family of a man killed in a crash on the QEII Highway last weekend.

Ryan Taylor was riding his bike along the highway between Highway 11 and 32 Street when he struck by a southbound vehicle at approximately 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Edwin Aklamanu, 36, of Edmonton is charged with failure to provide a breath sample causing death and operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing death in relation to the fatal crash.

Taylor, who was 32, leaves behind his spouse, who is just nearing the end of her maternity leave, a 2-year-old son and 10-month-old son.

“While Ryan may have had a colourful past, in the last few years, he sincerely made positive changes in his life to better his family,” says fundraising organizer Jeannie Amundson. “Regardless of his past, no one deserves to die at the hands of an impaired driver.”

Amundson says the couple did not have insurance of any sort and that the family wasn’t left with much at all.

“I hope to raise some money to provide some interim assistance to alleviate some of her expenses for his funeral and not having to rush back to work. She just really needs some time to figure out her life.”

The GoFundMe page Amundson has set up can be found here.
