Edmonton area Mountie charged with assault

STRATHCONA- RCMP say a veteran officer has been charged with assault.

Police say the Strathcona detachment member was involved in a fight at his home while off-duty.

Constable Matthew Howson, 35, is to appear in Sherwood Park provincial court on October 16.

RCMP say his duty status is also under review.

Howson has been with the force for 10 years.
