Second man charged in Lethbridge hockey tournament assault

LETHBRIDGE- A second man has been charged in connection with an altercation at a youth hockey tournament over the weekend.

On Sunday, video footage was captured of a referee being accosted by a group of men on the ice.

Lethbridge Police Service said that prior to, the referee had gotten into a verbal dispute with a 10-year-old player in the Quest for the Cup tournament. The player then hit the referee twice with his stick.

The 55-year-old game official then pushed the player to the ground, which led to an altercation with a group of adults, including coaches and a relative of the player.

The referee was pushed to the ice and punched multiple times by the player’s relative and a second man before the scuffle was broken up, according to LPS.

The second man involved was being sought by police, and on Monday night (Sept. 9), he attended the police station and turned himself in.

36-year-old Todd William Cross Child, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts of assault. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court on October 9. Cross Child had left the Crossings Ice Centre, where the incident took place, before police could apprehend him.

On Sunday, the 55-year-old relative of the player was arrested without incident at arena. Robert Farrell Creighton, of Standoff, is charged with one count of assault. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 9.

LPS said that no further charges are anticipated in the case.
