Coules and Bett named Athletes of the Week
A pair of local soccer players have been named this week’s Red Deer College Athletics Bedford Food Company Athletes of the Week.
Alisha Coules was said to be outstanding on the Queens two-game road trip this past weekend. On Saturday in Medicine Hat, the Queens and Rattlers were scoreless at the half, until Coules kicked the offence into another gear. The second-year Bachelor of Science nursing student scored a natural hat trick, striking in the 51st, 61st and 70th minute, helping the Queens to eventually defeat the host Rattlers 4-0. The Stettler native was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game.
Then, despite dropping a 3-0 decision to the Kodiaks on Sunday, Coules was once again noticeable on the soccer pitch. She displayed a strong work ethic and tried to generate several scoring opportunities against a formidable Kodiaks’ defence. The talented forward showed dogged determination, playing all 90 minutes.
Elsewhere, Calgary’s Kyle Bett played an integral role in helping the Kings Soccer team earn four of a possible six points in the standings this past weekend. The third-year played a full 90 minutes in both games and was described as being very effective, especially defensively. The Kinesiology General student was said to be instrumental in preserving the 0-0 tie while down a man against the Rattlers on Saturday.
