Sep 5, 2019 | 4:58 PM

It’s back and at ‘em this weekend for RDC Athletics.

The Kings and Queens Soccer teams travel down south and open the 2019-20 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season with a pair of road games in Medicine Hat on Saturday and Lethbridge on Sunday.

The Queens have been preparing for months and Head Coach Esad Elkaz is thrilled about the group he has assembled. Eleven returning student-athletes are complemented by eight promising recruits.

“This year, we are deep in every position–from the defence, to the midfield to the forwards,” says Elkaz. “I think everything is coming together.”

The Kings Soccer team has an even mix of 11 veterans and 11 new student-athletes, and returning midfielder, Theo Gill, likes the makeup of the squad.

“I see a lot of heart from our group and also from the new guys coming in. The rooks coming in are quality soccer players,” Gill says. “The cohesion has really grown and grown. It’s a really good mix and a really fun group to be a part of.”

As part of their Icebreaker Tournament, Queens Hockey will host the MacEwan University Griffins in non-conference play Friday night at 8:00 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Saturday at 11 a.m. they host SAIT and at 8 p.m. will take on Olds.
