Sep 4, 2019 | 4:29 PM

A 42-year-old man faces several charges following a carjacking in Ponoka.

Mounties say it was at about 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 when a member of the RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit noticed a suspicious vehicle with a trailer, reported stolen from Edmonton, by a fast food restaurant in Ponoka.

A male, after seeing the approaching RCMP vehicle, fled on foot and carjacked a nearby vehicle.

The male driver of the carjacked vehicle was sitting in the drive thru of a restaurant and was unable to escape the vehicle until it started to move. The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

A short distance away, police say the suspect rolled the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 2A in his effort to flee the area. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released into police custody.

Jesse Paul Telep of Bruderheim was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x2), robbery, forcible confinement, flight from peace officer, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Mounties say Telep was also wanted on two separate warrants at the time of his arrest. He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court via CCTV on Sept. 6.
