RDC cross country and soccer teams ready to roll

RDC Athletics squads are close to getting back on their respective fields of play.

Two of the early sports to get going are cross country running and soccer.

The RDC cross country team will compete starting September 14 when it hosts the ACAC Grand Prix #2.

“Our women’s team is not only experienced, but faster and stronger than last year,” says head coach Kari Elliott. “Our men are fewer in number this season, but fast. We plan on being very competitive this season, but there is hard work to do first.”

On the soccer pitch, 11 players are returning between the Kings and Queens.

“Last year, the veterans really took that step that I expected them to take,” says Kings coach Wade Groenewegen. “They don’t want to just be good players in the league, they want to be dominant players in their positions in the ACAC.”

Both soccer teams begin their seasons on the road in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge the weekend of September 7-8.

Men’s and women’s hockey also get started September 6 with the Kings in Calgary to face the Dinos, and the Queens at home against MacEwan, the latter of which is part of the RDC Icebreaker tournament.
