Fire causes close to a million dollars in damages to Red Deer County business

Aug 30, 2019 | 10:24 PM

A fire south of Red Deer on Friday night is believed to have caused between $800,000 and $1,000,000 in damages to a local business.

A tin and wood building, which was under construction on the back half of the property at Blue Collar Garage (172 Clearview Drive), was fully engulfed around 9 p.m. when Red Deer County Fire Services first responded.

The business is located within the Clearview Industrial Park, south of 19 Street and just off 40 Avenue.

The owner tells rdnewsNOW that no one was around at the time and that they will rebuild. The business’s second phase 8500 sq. ft. building had been set to open at the end of September.

Fire members were on scene for several hours knocking the fire down and putting out hot spots.

Deputy Chief Travis Allred says it’s too early to say whether the fire is a case of arson, though that hasn’t been ruled out.
County Fire Services and Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze.
