Drayton Valley RCMP Report: August 22 –29

Here is the latest weekly report from the Drayton Valley RCMP Detachment:

August 21

10:14 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 49 Ave – Complainant reported a break and enter to their garage that occurred about July 31. Complainant reporting now as she has noticed a number of items missing since first noticing the B&E. Items included tools, sports equipment, fishing gear. Under investigation.

10:56 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/Madsen Ave – Complainant reported a bear in the area. Member attended and bear was leaving from hospital area toward RR73. Fish and Wildlife also attended.

11:21 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported that a black truck passed unsafely at high speed in the construction zone. Complainant followed the truck to town. Occupant of the truck issued a middle finger salute and an argument ensued in a parking lot. Under investigation.

3:12 p.m. – Drayton Valley –Complaint of an apparently very high female and a male in truck in the 7-Eleven parking lot. Members attended, both arrested, vehicle search located drug paraphernalia and copper wire. A warrant was executed on the male and the female was held in cells until able to care for herself. Police were unable to prove who had possession of the wire or that either drove the truck to the location as they had been present for some time.

6:45 p.m. – Drayton Valley – HW Pickup School – Alarm at location, member attended and alarm confirmed as false

August 22

7:41 a.m. – Tomahawk – Complaint of a break and enter to a business that occurred overnight. Computer and some consumable goods taken. No suspects identified, advice given to proprietor regarding security.

8:18 am – Drayton Valley – 50A St – Complaint of a break and enter to a business. Members attended, staff had seen the suspect and provided a direction of travel. Members called for assistance from Police Dog Service and a track was initiated. A male was arrested sleeping in a tent about a kilometer away. Charges are pending against a 31-year-old-old male.

10:26 a.m. – Brazeau County – Willey West – Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle at the campground gate at 4:35 am. Occupants provided dubious reasons for being there. No offence was committed, but police say information gathered may assist with other events.

11:19 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported an attempted fraud. Complainant had piano for sale online, male sent a cheque for more than needed, complainants bank determined cheque was fake. Common scam where the victim is requested to return the excess to the suspect. No money lost.

2:42 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported her rural post box broken into, mail stolen

3:20 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 39 Westbound – Complaint of an erratic driver in a white Tahoe, cut off two semi’s, pulled out and slammed on brakes. Members unable to attend due to priority calls. No plate provided.

3:46 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Power Center Blvd – Staff member at store reporting ongoing harassment from a customer over a product he was trying to return. Product not being taken back due to condition. Customer returned multiple times causing repeated issues. Still under investigation.

4:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported an insecure vacant residence with possible squatters. Members aware of the location, attended, found no one inside. Insecure residence was given a confidence boost by being told it was valued.

4:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St / 55 Ave – Complaint received of a male acting suspiciously, trying keys in multiple mailboxes. Member attended and located the male who is known to have mental health and addiction issues. No offence committed, just being weird.

4:44 p.m. – Rocky Rapids or Drayton Valley – hangup 911 call from a payphone, reportedly in Rocky Rapids. Members attended the area in Rocky Rapids, no payphone. Members then attended the Fas Gas in Drayton Valley but the payphone there has been removed. No issue noted at either spot

5:50 p.m. – Brazeau County – Willey West – Complainant reported his trailer broken into sometime during the day. Under investigation, unknown what was taken

8:15 p.m. – Violet Grove – Complainant reported a neighbour parked in their driveway and yelled at their daughter over a barking dog issue

8:39 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 759 – Complaint of cows loose on the highway. Owner of cows attended and fixed the fence

9:29 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Hospital – Complaint of an unwanted male at the hospital. Member attended and determined the male was there for medical treatment. Once the male had been treated he left the hospital without incident

10:45 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 502 – Members responded with a report of cables cut in the area. Phone cables found cut in 4 places, one section missing. Time delay in reporting, when members arrived no suspects were located

August 23

12:39 am – Brazeau County – Members responded to a report by a male that he was being chased by another male brandishing a hatchet. Members located all parties. Sexual assault investigation resulted, investigation ongoing, no further details to be released

12:41 am – Drayton Valley – 48 Ave – Complainant reported a black Dodge pickup knocking over garbage cans. Members unable to attend due to a priority call, vehicle not located and no plate was obtained

2:07 am – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Members responded to a business alarm, front window found broken, some products stolen. Still under investigation

2:30 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Complaint of a high female outside the bar yelling at people. Members located and arrested the female who spent the night in cells. Released when sober

4:08 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complaint of an intoxicated male. Members attended and located an intoxicated male. The male was arrested for public intoxication and held in cells overnight.

7:19 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 45 Ave/52 St – Complainant reported a male, wandering about without shoes, appearing to be high. Members responded and attempted to get the male into a nearby friends’ residence without success. The male was subsequently arrested and held in cells until sober

9:57 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 49 St – Member attended location and retrieved a disassembled bike. “Bike” will be held for 60 days and then disposed if unclaimed

2:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 58 St – Complainant reported a male entering a shed on private property. Male located and told to leave the property, property representative declined to lay charge

6:57 pm – Brazeau County – Berrymoor area – Report of a cow on Hwy 759. Members were then advised to stand down as the cow was secured. Owner will fix the fence.

9:14 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported hearing gun shots, about a dozen this evening and some over past few nights. Members attended and located a residence where fireworks were being set off as part of a funeral

August 24

12:25 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave/50 St – Complainant reported a very high female in the area. Female ran right up to complainant’s husband and began howling in his face. Female wearing only a bathrobe. Members attended and later located the female inside a residence, she was directed to stay inside. Police recommend against the consumption of illicit drugs.

1:19 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Dodson Plaza parking lot – Member on patrol located a female known to be breaching her 10 pm – 6 am curfew. The female was arrested and released when no longer breaching curfew. Charge pending

3:01 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Jubilee Ave – Complainant requested assistance with unwanted persons in a hotel room. Member attended, unwanted persons left without incident, actual guest allowed to remain

5:19 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported two females threatening her outside her residence. Member attended, complainant not cooperative and only wanted the females to stay away. Member told the two females to stay away. All parties well known to police

9:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Complainant reported a headlight smashed out in her car over the past two nights

3:12 p.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge Industrial area – Two reports received; one of a vehicle through a fence, the other of two vehicles racing and one ending up in a fence. Members responded and located a 2017 Nissan in the fence. Evidence supplied to police resulted in the driver being charged with street racing. The other driver remains unidentified after leaving his friend to take the heat. Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire were called to assist due to a minor vehicle fire

3:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – McDonalds’ drive thru – anonymous complaint of a female smoking in a car with a child. Police unable to attend right away and the plate provided didn’t appear to match. Police remind smokers that it is illegal to smoke in a car with a child, prescribed fine $287

5:14 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported hearing gunshots in the area. Member attended and located and spoke to the persons responsible. No charges

6:41 pm – Drayton Valley – Center Court – Female reported ex-boyfriend had shown up and was making a scene. Male then left, but was possibly suicidal. Member spoke to the female, no offence occurred. The male was subsequently located and wasn’t suicidal.

6:49 pm – Drayton Valley – Tim Hortons South – Complainant reported a newer yellow Camaro peeled out of the parking lot, fishtailing and spinning on gravel swerving into oncoming lane, then ran a red light to go North on Hwy 22. No plate provided and vehicle not located

9:12 pm – Brazeau County – RR85 – report of cows loose on the road. Member attended but no cows were located on the road, presumably they had been corralled by their owner

August 25

12:10 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported seeing a male skulking in the alley behind a business, possibly scoping it out. Members attended and located a male who is well known to police, eating pizza. The male was not committing any offence but was requested to leave, which he did.

8:55 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Westwind Hotel – Found drugs at the hotel. Police attended and seized the drugs.

12:35 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Park – Complaint that a dog had bit a person. Police attended with animal control. The dog was placed under house arrest for 10 days and the owner was ticketed for a dog biting a person.

12:55 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp 492 – Compound broken into in industrial area. Fence cut and sea cans entered. Investigation ongoing.

5:21 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Report of a paving scam. In mid-August A male attended their residence and offered to do some paving with the extra materials they had. Agreed on a price and paved the area, however it was very poor quality. There have been similar incidents reported across the province. This matter is under investigation.

7:19 pm – Brazeau County – Twp 492 – The stolen vehicle from August 20 was recovered abandoned and stripped of major accessories. The vehicle was towed and the owner advised.

August 26

9:57 am – Drayton Valley – Boston Pizza – Complaint that overnight a white GMC Sierra had the back window smashed out and the lockbox broken into. Numerous instrumentation tools were stolen totalling over $10,000.

10:47 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Industrial Road – While patrolling on Industrial Road, police observed a driver of a vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. The member initiated a traffic stop and the driver tried to get in to the compound of Prism Storage before being stopped. When the member approached the vehicle a large amount of copper wire and break-in tools could be seen. After investigating, the driver, 31-year-old Faron OLSON, was arrested and charged for possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, and possession of break-in instruments, as well as various traffic related offences. OLSON was remanded in to custody for a bail hearing on August 29, 2019 in Leduc.

10:49 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Street – Report that homeless people are living in a garage of a vacant residence. Police attended and cleared the garage and notified the owner.

11:31 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Hospital – Suspicious male, not a patient, possibly on drugs acting erratically in the parking lot. Police attended, the male was no longer on scene. Patrols made, unable to locate.

12:49 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Madsen Avenue – Report of a male sleeping in the bushes. Members attended and located a homeless male sleeping. He was provided a ride to the hospital as it appeared he may have had an infection.

1:22 pm – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Report of a suspicious person that appears to be trying the doors on a residence. Members attended, male was located and issued a trespassing ticket. While looking for the male, members also located a broken natural gas line by the creek. Police called ATCO to assist with shutting down the line and identifying the owner.

3:43 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp 492 – Industrial compound broken into and copper wire stolen.

4:00 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp 514 – Loose horse located in driveway, unknown owner. The complainant had caught the horse and a local stable attended to pick it up.

8:34 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 55 Street – Found bike, bike was severely damaged and serial number had been welded over. Unable to confirm ownership, however bike did not appear to have any value and was disposed of.

10:03 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 49 Street – Complainant reported people yelling at each other in an alley. Members attended and determined that a teen male had kicked out two other teens, who had been yelling but were no longer present. Parents of the vocal youth advised.

11:25 pm – Lodgepole – 48 Street – Complainant reported three people in a white SUV trying to enter vehicles. Member contacted complainant en route, persons had already left. Patrols of Lodgepole didn’t locate the described vehicle.

August 27

8:20 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 83 – Report of unknown people burning copper wire. Members attended, the people were gone and the fire was out. A short while later a suspicious vehicle was reported by an oil site security employee in the same area. Members located the vehicle however were unable to determine if they were involved with the copper wire thefts in the area.

3:54 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Walmart – Complaint of a female intoxicated by drugs in Walmart. Member attended and arrested the female and was held until sober.

4:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Econorest – Report of a possible altercation. Members attended, all parties had separated and gone their separate ways.

5:13 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Canadian Tire – Shoplifting complaint, female tried to steal a generator. Members located and arrested the female, she was later released for court, charges are pending.

8:32 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Walmart – Parking complaint, unknown people removed the carts from the corral and parked their vehicle inside, took photos and then left.

11:39 pm – Drayton Valley – Econorest – Report of a possible fight, members attended, all parties had separated prior to police attendance and would not speak with the police.

August 28

1:57 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Derrick Lounge – Complaint of an assault that occurred at the bar by an unknown male. File is under investigation.

7:47 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Tomahawk – Damage to mailboxes overnight. Unknown if any mail was stolen.

8:19 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Report of constant harassing phone calls/texts from a disgruntled customer. Member spoke with all parties involved, matter was resolved and agreed to stop contacting each other.

8:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Report of an abandoned/possible stolen vehicle in a parking lot since Monday. Vehicle was not stolen, the owner was contacted and advised he left it there for work.

9:05 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Ramada – Theft of a rear bumper from a white 2018 Dodge Ram sometime overnight.

10:35 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Holiday Inn – Report of a possible stolen license plate from vehicle in the parking lot overnight.

11:00 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 759 – Report of a semi driver unable to maintain lane. Patrols made, unable to locate. The company was advised of the complaint and will follow up with the driver.

4:29 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Courthouse – Intox male found by cleaning staff sleeping under the stairs. Police located the male and arrested him for being intoxicated in public and was provided a safe place to sleep for the night.

5:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave/50 St – Report of a 3 vehicle collision where one of the vehicles left the scene. Nobody was injured.

6:42 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 44 Avenue – Landlord calling with concerns of a tenant with an unsightly premises and a dog that they are not sure is being cared for. Members attended, the dog had water and shelter and a clean area in the yard to use.

9:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Coach Motel – Report of an unwanted female at the location. Police attended and the female had already left.

10:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 43 Avenue – Suspicious person, possibly breaking in to a compound. Members attended and checked the compound, nothing appeared to be stolen and the person was no longer there. An unsecure building was located by police and the owner of the property was advised.

August 29

3:24 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 46 Street – Report of an unknown intox male screaming on the front lawn. Members attended and located the male who thought he was at a friend’s house. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and was held until sober.

5:47 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50A Street – Suspicious people walking on a vacant lease site. Member attended and patrolled the area, nobody was located.
