$683,000 lost in gift card scam

EDMONTON- Police are warning the public about fraudulent gift card transactions.

Investigators say that between January 1 and July 15, they received 136 reports of these internet scams.

The overall loss was just over $683,000.

Police also say criminals are using such things as computer viruses to gain access to personal computers and banking information after alarming victims that their credit cards have been compromised.
