Innisfail Merchants win second straight Junior AAA provincial title

For the second year in a row, the Innisfail Merchants are Junior AAA provincial baseball champions.

The Merchants claimed another title on Monday with a 5-3 extra innings win over the St. Albert Cardinals in the gold medal game at provincials.

It’s the team’s third provincial title in nine years. The Merchants will now represent Alberta at the Western Canada Baseball Association Junior AAA Championship this weekend (Aug. 9-11) in Saskatoon.

Innisfail takes on the host Hoopers to open the tournament and will also battle the Elmwood Giants (Manitoba) and St. Albert in round-robin play.
