Stettler RCMP arrest man after 10-hour standoff

STETTLER- A 23-year-old man faces charges after being arrested by Stettler Mounties following a 10-hour standoff.

On Friday, August 2 at approximately 7:45 p.m., RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed near Pheasantback Golf Course.

The vehicle began travelling at excessive speeds and failed to stop for police.

The driver and lone occupant was known to police, and a pursuit was not initiated given the potential risk to the public.

Officers later attended a residence where the suspect brandished a shotgun.

Stettler RCMP with the assistance of Bashaw RCMP contained the area and the RCMP Emergency Response Team, and Police Dog Service (PDS) were called in.

Richard George was taken into custody without incident after a 10-hour standoff.

George faces numerous charges including flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of a weapon, and possession of methamphetamine.

He appears in Stettler Provincial Court on August 8.
