SUNCHILD FIRST NATION- The RCMP have laid criminal charges against a woman following a collision which left one man dead.

Candace Chipaway, 31, has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing the death of 33-year-old Andrew Frencheater.

Chipaway is also charged under the Traffic Safety Act.

On July 29, at 6:32 a.m., the Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a complaint of a man in the ditch on the Sunchild Road.

RCMP located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An abandoned vehicle was located nearby and seized for investigation.

The RCMP collision analyst and Red Deer RCMP Forensic Identification Section attended to conduct a scene examination.

Several interviews were conducted and a suspect was identified.

Investigation revealed that the man was riding his bicycle when he was struck by the vehicle.

It is believed that the collision occurred sometime before midnight on July 28.

Chipaway makes her first appearance in Rocky Mountain House Provincial Court on August 7.
