Emergency Response Team assists in arrest of armed man near Lacombe

An apartment complex near Lacombe had to be evacuated Tuesday night as multiple law enforcement agencies dealt with an armed and possibly dangerous man.

At 8:13 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP received a request for assistance in relation to a male who was armed and threatening to harm himself.

Blackfalds Mounties immediately responded and with the assistance of Lacombe Police Service, Red Deer City RCMP and Police Dog Services, contained the area around the apartment complex in order to ensure public safety, while other residents of the complex were evacuated.

At approximately 11 p.m., police say members of the Calgary Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived and negotiations were initiated with the man who was inside the residence. At 12:30 a.m., the man was voluntarily taken into custody with no further issue.

According to RCMP, guns were seized from the residence but there was no one else inside with the man and no one threatened with any firearms.
