Lockdown ended at Drumheller Institution at norovirus scare

Jul 30, 2019 | 1:34 PM

The lockdown at Drumheller Insitution has ended following a norovirus outbreak scare.

The institution has resumed its normal operations and visits have resumed.

A suspected norovirus outbreak has resulted in the lockdown of a southern Alberta jail.

Starting July 29, officials with Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) say all visits to Drumheller Institution are suspended and a lockdown has been put in place pending further notice.

The move is noted as a precautionary measure after some inmates showed symptoms associated with Norovirus.

The CSC is said to be working with health authorities in order to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

Officials say CSC is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all staff, offenders and members of the public.
