Four inmates charged after ‘severe assault’ at Edmonton Institution

EDMONTON- Charges have been laid against four inmates at the Edmonton Institution following what police are calling a severe assault earlier this month.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the maximum-security prison on July 12.

They say five inmates were involved in an altercation in the prison’s exercise yard.

Guards intervened to stop the assault, and a 32-year-old inmate was sent to hospital with serious injuries.

He has since been released and is under medical care at the institution.

Three inmates have been charged with one count each of attempted murder, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

Another inmate faces a lone charge of attempted murder.
