Sunny skies and warm temperatures are being credited with helping the Westerner Days Fair and Exposition set a new attendance record on Sunday.

Officials say over 29,453 guests passed through the gates on the final day of the five-day fair, bringing the event’s total attendance to 90,796.

That’s up slightly from 90,500 in 2018.

The Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships wrapped up Sunday afternoon with the best conditions of the week.

Reed Rosencrans driving The Pipe Yard took home the title of North American Pony Chuckwagon Champion with a time of 319.87. Runner up went to John Stott – Go RV Red Deer with a time of 320.96, while third place went to Neil Salmond driving ABC Country Restaurant with a time of 321.65

The Final Champion of the Chariot races was Martina Hubl, driving Westerner Park Past Presidents with a time of 157.61. Runners up in a second / third split went to Louis Johner driving Y Express and Alan Bengston driving Morning of Faith, each with a final time of 158.71.

Reed Rosencrans also took home the afternoon’s Dash For Cash $2,500 winnings driving The Pipe Yard with a time of 76.89, sponsored by Marshall Construction.

With a theme this year of ‘Well Worth The Ride’, Westerner Park officials note thousands of dollars were also raised for local charities thanks to the generosity of fair attendees and the efforts of numerous local organizations.

To round off this year’s celebration, Westerner Park officials point-out they will be having a flash sale with $30 RAD passes for next year’s Westerner Days Fair & Exposition, starting Wednesday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. for one week only.

Westerner Days 2020 is set for July 15-19.
