Natural gas producers call for government action

CALGARY- Alberta natural gas producers are calling on Premier Jason Kenney to support a plan to restrict production to boost low gas prices.

The CEOs of nine producers have released an open letter to the premier saying it’s vital that the province intercedes.

The letter states the viability of the sector — and all its jobs and investment — are in jeopardy if the current situation is allowed to continue.

It proposes a solution in which gas producers commit to manage their production on a voluntary basis when needed to balance supply with system capacity, resulting in no net loss to provincial royalty revenues while honouring existing sales commitments.
