Parker Thompson is pulling out of one of the four series he’s been competing in this season, the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge USA with team JDX Racing.

Thompson has raced in six events on the circuit this year, winning one and earning five podiums to put him second in the championship standings with a handful of races to go.

However, the 21-year-old has been forced to make some tough decisions in balancing his schedule with the abundance of opportunities that have come his way in 2019.

“As the Indy Pro 2000 championship battle heats up, it is clear that I need to devote more of my focus to that series, and the opportunity to advance in the open wheel rankings. With that in mind, I regret that I am unable to continue my partnership with JDX Racing and the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge USA series,” Thompson states.

“It has been an absolute honour to pilot the #3 Porsche GT3 of JDX Racing / Hertz / Byers Porsche. Jeremy Dale at JDX Racing, Kevin King at Byers Porsche and the entire crew at the track have been incredible partners. This team gave me my introduction to sports car racing, and I’m so thankful for that opportunity. I’ve been fortunate to find myself with many great opportunities in racing this season. I wish them all the best in the future.”

Now, the Red Deer native will turn his attention to the Canadian Touring Car Championship which is running races five and six of the season June 29-30 at Shannonville Motorsport Park in Ontario.

Thompson currently sits first after four rounds, and with six remaining.

July 6-7, Thompson returns to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challence Canada in Bowmanville, ON. He is second in that series.

Lastly, he also has the aforementioned Indy Pro 2000 series to worry about. Currently in second place, Thompson will race July 12-14 in the Streets of Toronto.
