Caroline eyes waste-to-energy facility

The Village of Caroline has big plans for the future with their interest in a waste-to-energy facility.

Fogdog Energy touts technology that regular waste, recycling, and compost and it converts into carbon “fluff,” that can be sold for conversion into hydrocarbon products such as diesel and gasoline.

One of the largest selling points to these facilities is that no sorting of trash is needed as all regular garbage and recyclables can be mixed together.

Caroline mayor John Rimmer visited Clearwater County recently to gain their support for the initiative.

“All Caroline wants is a letter from council, that they acknowledge and support Caroline in this project,” explained Rimmer.

County councillors asked Rimmer if Caroline would produce enough garbage to run the facility efficiently. Rimmer said they would also need garbage from the county.

“I’m not going to stake this as anything else than a pilot project at first,” stated Rimmer. “We’re hoping that we can make our first order by the start of the year.”

Clearwater County council didn’t fully endorse the project but motioned they do support getting more information on it and were very intrigued with the project.

This project follows a similar agreement the Town of Sylvan Lake is working on with Fogdog Energy.
