A pair of central Alberta schools have been recognized for their environmental stewardship efforts.

St. Joseph High School in Red Deer and St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Blackfalds each celebrated their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certifications on June 14.

Officials with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools say the achievements were honoured with short ceremonies at each school on Friday.

Officials say new schools are required to meet LEED standards and during design and construction, LEED requirements are taken into consideration.
