Hills and Richards named Lightning Athletes of the Year

Excellence in athletics was celebrated during the annual Athletic Awards Banquet held at Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer Thursday night.

The Sr. Male Athlete of the Year award went to Dolan Hills – Football MVP, Football League and Zone MVP. Hills also competed in Sr. Men’s Basketball and Handball and will be attending the University of Manitoba on a football scholarship.

Sr. Female Athlete of the Year went to Keanna Richards – Sr. Women’s Basketball MVP, Women’s Handball MVP and a Provincial Track Bronze medalist 4×400, Cross-Country running team member.

Gr. 9 Male Athlete of the Year – Owen Curtis, Gr. 9 Boys Volleyball, Badminton and Sr. Soccer

Gr. 9 Female Athlete of the year – Paige Roslinsky, MVP Gr. 9 Girls Volleyball, MVP Gr. 9 Girls Basketball, MVP Gr. 9 Track and Field and competed in badminton.

Top Academic Athlete – Shianna Duda, Cross-Country MVP, JV Girls Basketball MVP, badminton, Sr. Volleyball and tennis.

Andre Sather Memorial Winner – Blake Hopkins, The Athlete who best represents self, family and school with pride and dignity.

Lightning Pride Team of the Year – Sr. Football, the team that best exemplifies perseverance, commitment and pride in their performance and participation.

Lightning Advocate of the Year – Lesley Young, the person who supports with selfless acts of time and dedication to Lightning Athletics.

Stacy Larsen Memorial Award – Awarded to the Bantam Football player who inspires teammates by demonstrating leadership and character.

Ross Towers Award – Brayanna Lukawiecki and Sean Opiniano. Awarded to the basketball athletes who best combine their love of basketball with overall commitment to HHHS basketball.
