John Dolliver Memorial Truck and Car Show set for June 22

The memory of a local teen killed in a tragic crash on Canada Day 2016 continues to live on through an event happening later this month.

The third annual John Dolliver Memorial Truck and Car Show is taking place on June 22 in the Parkland Mall east parking lot.

Dolliver was just 18 when he and a 16-year-old girl died in a collision on Range Road 261 east of Red Deer.

“When I think of John, he was non-judgemental. He got along with everyone. He talked to everyone and didn’t judge them by what they drove, what they wore, or where they worked. He just accepted everyone and he was about forgiveness,” says Tammy Dolliver, John’s mother.

“Even though we’ve been through a huge tragedy, one of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is forgiveness, and how much forgiving a situation or somebody can release lot from you and allow you to move forward and honour him without a lot of resentment and hate.”

The car show, which runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. next Saturday is set to feature 200-400 vehicles, as well as a silent auction. Money raised goes into the memorial fund.

For the third year, that fund will see a $1000 scholarship go to a Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School student who represents the way John lived his life.
