Eckville man facing child porn charges still seeking lawyer

Jun 13, 2019 | 12:15 PM

An Eckville man facing dozens of child porn-related charges is still working to find a lawyer.

The 35-year-old man made a brief court appearance in Red Deer through CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) from the Edmonton Remand Centre on Thursday and indicated he was close to retaining representation.

He faces a total of 73 counts, including making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and voyeurism. So far, 10 complainants have come forward.

The man was arrested by the ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit on Jan.10, 2019 with the assistance of Sylvan Lake RCMP.

His arrest came after ICE received information from Task Force Argos, a specialized online child exploitation unit of the Queensland Police Service in Australia.

Police say the Task Force Argos shared information about an Alberta suspect allegedly involved in trading child pornography images online.

ICE searched homes in Eckville and Fox Creek, Alberta associated to the suspect, with a number of computers and electronic devices seized and submitted for forensic analysis.

The man was arrested a second time on Jan. 18, 2019 by Sylvan Lake Mounties after allegedly breaching his release conditions relating to internet access.

The case returns to court July 11.
