Red Deer’s outdoor pool to host World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

Jun 12, 2019 | 1:32 PM

A free swimming lesson for kids aged 6 – 17 years will be held at the Recreation Centre Outdoor Pool Thursday, June 20 as part of the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™.

This event, founded in 2010, aims to build awareness and generate local and national attention about the vital importance of teaching kids to swim to help prevent drowning. The World Health Organization estimates drowning is one of the top five causes of death for people aged 1-14 in 48 of the 85 countries it monitors around the globe.

Whether you spend your summer floating down the Red Deer River, fishing off the dock at the lake, relaxing in your backyard pool or visiting one of Red Deer’s pools, swimming is a critical life skill. Red Deer is excited to join the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson to share the message of the importance of water safety.

The 2019 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ will take place on Thursday, June 20. This will be Red Deer’s first time hosting the event.

Red Deerians aged 6-17 years are invited to join us at the Recreation Centre Outdoor Pool from 4 – 4:30 p.m. for a free swimming lesson and stay for the rest of public swimming until 8 p.m.

Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a person 16 years or older.

Pre-registration for the free swimming lesson is required. Visit Look ‘n Book or call 403-309-8411 to register.
