Speeders Targeted

Red Deer RCMP nab extreme speeder

High-speed drivers continue to be on the radar for Red Deer RCMP.

On June 8, in response to community complaints, Mounties caught a driver travelling 112 km/h in a 60 km/h zone around 9:30 p.m. while conducting speed enforcement on 30 Avenue near 55 Street.

Police say the vehicle was stopped and the driver was unable to provide valid proof of insurance, or a valid driver’s licence.

As a result, RCMP say the male driver has been summoned to court to appear before a judge, adding four other vehicles were stopped for speeding at the same location and issued violation tickets as well.

“Citizens making the reckless decision to travel at such extreme speeds pose a serious risk to the public,” says Sergeant Mike Zufferli, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Unit, in a press release. “These extreme speeds show a wanton disregard for the safety of others, and we continue to work every day to address it through enforcement and education.”
